Bible Memorization
Why memorize the Bible
- (YouTube) Aaron Is Memorizing The New Testament in 2013! Aaron attempted to memorize the entire New Testament in one year, memorizing 22 verses a day. He came close. In his own words, "It has been a year and three months since I embarked on The Great Challenge of memorizing the New Testament. Since that time, I have memorized and recited before a public audience 24 out of the 27 books of the New Testament. All by the grace of God! The only ones I have left to complete are 1 Corinthians, Mark, and Luke. This has been an incredible journey, and definitely the most difficult thing I have ever attempted to do. I have learned a LOT along the way, and I intend to share my findings with you in hopes of easing your own path toward hiding God’s Word in your heart. (See blog. and YouTube homepage PiercingWordMinistry.) Here Aaron and his wife quote the Book of James: James Piercing Word.
- (YouTube) The Value of Memorizing Scripture - John Piper. Posted 1/18/2009. (1) Makes meditation possible when I can't be reading the Bible and meditation is the pathway to deeper understanding, (2) Strengthens my faith, because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God and that happens when I'm hearing the Word in my head, (3) Shapes the way I view the world by conforming my mind to God's viewpoint, (4) Makes God's Word more readily accessible in overcoming temptation to sin, (5) Guards my mind, making it easier to detect error, and the world is filled with error, (6) Helps me hit the devil in the face with a force he cannot resist to protect myself and my family from his assaults, (7) Provides the strongest and sweetest words for ministering to others, (8) Provides the matrix for Jesus to talk to me in my mind and soul.
- Bible Memorizing Schecule. If you can memorize 4 to 6 verses every day and remember them, then you can memorize the New Testament in five years.
- How to Memorize the Bible. Memorize the Bible as Jesus did.
- Memorizing the Whole New Testament. When he decides on a book or section to memorize, Paul divides up it up into manageable portions and then listens to the first portion at least once a day for three months, trying to mouth along with the words as much as possible. For the first month, the material will be largely foreign; by the second month, he is often able to recall the text's general thrust; and in the third month the focus becomes simply filling in the blanks and smoothing out the mistakes.

Memorizing the Bible by repeatedly reading it
- Read it aloud. Read your passage through once or twice a day aloud.
- Memorize it. After you have read it aloud for several weeks, memorize it. Keep working on it faithfully until you can get through the entire passage by memory.
- Quote it routinely. Quote it once a day until word perfect, then once a week for 4-6 weeks, then once a month for life.
