(Modified) Major System to memorizing numbers
The first step is to turn the individual digits in your number into consonants. Each of the numerals from 0 through 9 receives its own letter. The letters I've chosen are as follows:
- 0 → “z” or “s” since “z” is the first letter of “zero” and “s” kind of sounds like “z”
- 1 → "L" since the lowercase version is one vertical line.
- 2 → “n” since it’s written with 2 vertical lines
- 3 → “m” since it’s written with 3 vertical lines and actually looks like a sideways “3”
- 4 → “r” since it’s the last letter of “four” and since “4” and “R” are almost mirror images of each other
- 5 → "f" or "v" since since both letters are found in "five"
- 6 → "d" since it looks similar to the number "6" mirror imaged.
- 7 → “T” since it looks like two mirror-image number “7s” back-to-back. Latin september ("seventh month"), from septem ("seven").
- 8 → "g" script version resembles "8".
- 9 → “p” since “p” is a mirror-image of 9
For example: 743-0547 becomes Trm-sfrt. Then create a mnemonic like: The room (is) safe (to) rent. Another phone number example, 818-428-7992 becomes "age-leg, are-nag, tap-pen." This can be further enhanced by chunking into 2 (or 3) digits and giving them permanent words/names. Thus, you learn the numbers 00 to 99.
