  • Manuscript 5, 1876, 1-3. {12MR 208.3}. The plea may be made that a loving Father would not see His children suffering the punishment of God by fire while He had the power to relieve them. But God would, for the good of His subjects and for their safety, punish the transgressor. God does not work on the plan of man. He can do infinite justice that man has no right to do before his fellow man. Noah would have displeased God to have drowned one of the scoffers and mockers that harassed him, but God drowned the vast world. Lot would have had no right to inflict punishment on his sons-in-law, but God would do it in strict justice.

  • Heavenly Sanctuary and Investigative Judgment. This article has several important key points. It is worth reading in its entirety.
  • Ibid. From eternal ages it was God’s purpose that every created being, from the bright and holy seraph to man, should be a temple for the indwelling of the Creator. ... In cleansing the temple from the world’s buyers and sellers, Jesus announced His mission to cleanse the heart from the defilement of sin,—from the earthly desires, the selfish lusts, the evil habits, that corrupt the soul. —Desire of Ages, 161.1
  • Ibid. The coming of Christ as our high priest to the most holy place, for the cleansing of the sanctuary, brought to view in Daniel 8:14; the coming of the Son of man to the Ancient of Days, as presented in Daniel 7:13; and the coming of the Lord to His temple, foretold by Malachi, are descriptions of the same event; and this is also represented by the coming of the bridegroom to the marriage, described by Christ in the parable of the ten virgins, of Matthew 25. —Great Controversy 426.1
  • Thus,
  • In 1844, Christ entering the most holy place as our high priest
  • = the coming of the Son of man to the Ancient of Days
  • = Christ entering the temple to cleanse it
  • = the coming of the Bridegroom in the parable of the 10 virgins. See Christ's Object Lessons 408.2, 408.3 and 411.1.
  • Ibid. In order to cleanse the living, the truth about our Creator God and His design-law of love had to be recovered in order for the final message to go out and lighten the world and for the lies about God to be refuted, so a people on earth could be prepared to take the message about God’s character of love throughout the world.
  • Ibid. Jesus needs to not only perfect the individualities of those asleep in death who have placed their trust in Him, but He also has to do the same for those who are still alive on earth at the time of His second coming. This means He needs a people who have comprehended the truth sufficiently enough to expunge the lies about God from their minds and experience the transformation of their individualities/souls. Because of Satan’s counterattack on Christ’s work at the cross, it wasn’t until 1844 that people on earth were ready to begin this final preparation.
  • Ibid. The message of God for this time is the message of His character of love and His design-law of love, including the work of Jesus in His heavenly temple to prepare all who trust Him to live in His presence for eternity. Jesus won the victory at Calvary; He procured the remedy to sin, and He is now in heaven, applying His perfection to the hearts, minds and characters of all who trust Him. This is all in harmony with His character, methods and design-law of love. This is not a legal, judicial process but an actual fixing of what sin has broken within us. A legal, judicial process cannot fix our damaged characters.
  • Ibid. The same power that upholds nature, is working also in man. The same great laws that guide alike the star and the atom control human life. The laws that govern the heart's action, regulating the flow of the current of life to the body, are the laws of the mighty Intelligence that has the jurisdiction of the soul. From Him all life proceeds. Only in harmony with Him can be found its true sphere of action. For all the objects of His creation the condition is the same—a life sustained by receiving the life of God, a life exercised in harmony with the Creator's will. To transgress His law, physical, mental, or moral, is to place one's self out of harmony with the universe, to introduce discord, anarchy, ruin. —Education 99.2
  • 1. The Final Generation: Issues by Pastor Stephen Bohr - Last Generation Theology. Published 1/25/2021. Duration 58:30. After probation closes, there will be no intercessor in the heavenly sanctuary. Christ will have taken off his priestly robes and put on kingly robes.
  • Doug Batchelor, John Lomacang and the Holy Spirit as an Impersonal Force | Berean Talk. Published 7/16/2021. Duration 51:41. See also: Reactionary Theology - A Response about D. M. Canright
  • Ibid. “Question: The Trinity - We speak of the Trinity, the Father, the Son, and Holy Ghost; do we understand that the Holy Ghost, or Spirit, is a personal being as God the Father and Jesus the Son? In Christ’s talk with the disciples, in John 14, He uses the personal pronoun in referring to the Comforter.
  • Ibid. Answer: There are various interpretations and differences of opinion in regard to the matter. To the mind of the writer, the Spirit is the life of God, or better, the life of the Godhead, common both to the Father and the Son. It is that which makes Deity everywhere present. In Acts 2 it is spoken of as that which came into the room and filled all who were there. In the thirty-third verse Peter speaks of it as the power, which Christ had poured forth. It is spoken of as a person, because by the Spirit the Father and the Son come personally to us. In John
    16:7 Jesus tells us, “It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you.” Jesus was a person located in one place; the Spirit was that which was shed abroad among all His children, but it brought to every one of those children, the presence of Christ. So we read again, “He (the Spirit) shall glorify Me; for He shall take of Mine, and shall declare it unto you.

  • The Government of God - with Pastor Daniel Mesa. Published 6/9/2021. Duration 49:12. The government of God has God the Father, His Son, and the angels. 1 Timothy 5:21, "In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the elect angels I charge you to keep these rules without prejudging, doing nothing from partiality." • Response to Ellen White Becoming Trinitarian in 1898 | Berean Talk. Published 5/28/2021. Duration 1:19:31. • Priesthood of the Spirit & the Trinity - Imad Awde. Published 5/7/2021. Duration 58:05. Great insights!
  • God's Family: Jesus & his Siblings. Published 12/17/2020. Duration 6:15. The children of God are born from above. Children of the kingdom of God. Like Jesus, the firstborn of God, the children of God are no longer of this world, but they are sent into the world. The children of God are 'from' God, their own Abba Father. They are the anointed ones, just as Jesus, God's own Son was anointed. They are partakers of the divine nature and have the fullness of the deity within them! Being partakers of the holy spirit with which they walk. Yes, these are the sons of God--those who are led by the spirit of God and walk as Jesus walked. They are conformed to the image of God's Son, His firstborn--who is the image of the Father. They are conformed to His image, who is the image of God. These sons of God will be raised in the resurrection to be in the same image as the firstborn. "We shall be like Him for we will see Him as He is." When we are raised into glory, just as He was raised into glory. The world does not know this, just as the world has not known the Father (John 16), the world does not know the Son. Being born of God, children of God, they are heirs of God. Natural heirs of their Abba Father. Co-heirs of God's firstborn, who inherited all things (Hebrews 2). These children of God, who have overcome, will sit down with the Son of God on His throne, just as the Son overcame and sat down on His Father's throne. They, these sons of God, will rule the nations, they will judge the world; they will judge the angels. They are siblings of Jesus, God's firstborn (Hebrews 2). "The firstborn of many brothers." This is God's household. This is the royal family of God and His kingdom. Those who serve their Abba Father and do His will, just like His firstborn Son served His Father and did His will.
  • Ibid. Hebrews 12:22-24, "But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, 23 and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel."
  • Ibid. Romans 8:15-17, "For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him."
  • What Brings Us to Believe That Christianity Is the Exclusive Way to Truth?. Published 2/12/2019. Duration 10:57. Powerful philosophical answer(s).
  • 2020 Q4 Lesson 10: Education in Arts and Science (Dec. 5). Four judgments: (1) God is judged (to be true--i.e. God is glorified or vindicated in the Son and in His people), (2) God's people are judged (to be cleansed by spiritual fire--i.e. God's glory is slowly revealed to and in their lives), (3) God's people judge the wicked (in the 1,000 years in heaven by reviewing the books and understanding that nothing more could be done for them; God's people are prepared and trained to receive the kingdom), (4) Final judgment (after the 1,000 years) when the earth is cleansed by fire (God finally gives them up and His glory is manifest in its full unveiled manner which consumes the wicked--i.e. God no longer holds back in mercy but manifests full justice).
  • Ibid. Holiness is perfect harmony with God, perfect harmony with God's design laws, perfect harmony with health in all its forms (mental, physical and spiritual). The consequence of healthiness is happiness. The "beauty of holiness" is perfection back to God's design for our creation. Pathology is not beautiful.

Scripture: Acts 17:25; Isaiah 64:1-4; Isaiah 46:1-4, Mark 10:41-45; 2 Chronicles 16:9 ("to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless [Or whole] toward Him." (TLB) For the eyes of the Lord search back and forth across the whole earth, looking for people whose hearts are perfect toward him, so that he can show his great power in helping them.
  • The Baptism of the Holy Spirit - Part 1 - Imad Awde. Duration 1:05:20. A Christian knows he is a son of God because God abides in him by His Spirit (1 John 4:13, "By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his spirit."). Living water flowing from one's heart is the Holy Spirit (John 7:38-39). The Holy Spirit is received by "hearing of faith" (Galatians 3:2). John 3:5, must be born of water and the spirit. To be born again you must be born of water and spirit. Born of water is repentance and baptism ("Repent and be baptized"). Born of the spirit is something God does for you. God's presence in your life is not something you work to get, it is something God gives by measure. You may receive a little, you may receive a lot. John 1:33, Jesus is the one who baptizes with the holy spirit. When did Jesus baptize with the holy spirit? Answer: On Pentecost (Acts 2). 1 John 5:11-13, he who has the Son of God has life. The life is in the spirit. When God breathed on Adam, he became a living being. When God breathes on us, we receive eternal life and this life is in His Son. John 1:4, in him was life (i.e. eternal life) and the life was the light of men. Colossians 3:4, when Christ who is our life appears... Luke 24:49, the spirit is given so that we may have power. After the temptation in the wilderness, Jesus went out in power. He had been baptized, he had received the spirit, he had been tempted, and then he goes out in power. John 1:12, has many as receive Jesus, he gives power to become sons of God. That power is the power of the spirit; we are born again as sons of God.
  • Is The Godhead a Mystery?- Short Answers 32 - Imad Awde. Duration 5:17. The nature of God is a mystery, but not the identity of God. Nowhere in Scripture is God's identity stated as a "mystery". Indeed, to know God is to have eternal life. John 17:3, "And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." See also 1 John 5:20.

Strength and grace have been provided through Christ to be brought by ministering angels to every believing soul. {SC 52.3} ... All the miracles of Christ performed for the afflicted and suffering were, by the power of God, through the ministration of angels...All the blessings from God to man are through the ministration of holy angels. {2SP 67.2} ...   • Ibid. A created instrumentality is used in heaven’s organized plan for the renewing of our nature, working in the children of disobedience obedience unto God. The guardianship of the heavenly host is granted to all who will work in God’s ways and follow His plans. We may in earnest, contrite prayer call the heavenly helpers to our side. Invisible armies of light and power will work with the humble, meek, and lowly one.—Letter 116, 1899. {1SM 97.1}
  • Ibid. All who engage in ministry are God’s helping hand. They are co-workers with the angels; rather, they are the human agencies through whom the angels accomplish their mission. Angels speak through their voices, and work by their hands. And the human workers, co-operating with heavenly agencies, have the benefit of their education and experience. As a means of education, what “university course” can equal this? {Ed 271.1}
  • Law & Grace. Published 5/15/2020. Duration 3:46. The law says vs grace replies:
  • The Law: (1) "For the wages of sin is death" Romans 6:23. (2) "the soul that sins it shall die" Ezekiel 18:4. (3) "This do and you will live" Leviticus 18:5; Ezekiel 20:11; Galatians 3:12. (4) "I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me" Matthew 18:32. (5) "And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness" Romans 4:5. (6) 'Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”' Galatians 3:13.

  • Regarding a creed. John Loughborough said in 1861, "The first step of apostasy is to set up a creed, telling us what we shall believe. The second is to make that creed a test of fellowship. The third is to try members by that creed. The fourth to denounce as heretics those who do not believe that creed. And fifth, to commence persecution against such." --“Doings of the Battle Creek Conference, Oct. 5 & 6, 1861,” Advent Review and Sabbath Herald 18 (8 Oct. 1861): 148.
  • Regarding a creed.The Adventist Church now has 28 Fundamental Beliefs. If someone wants to know what Adventists believe, it's helpful to have official beliefs to refer them to. These beliefs are adaptive, subject to reinterpretation and clarification. These are not definitive TRUTH statements. They are progressive beliefs. Sometimes, however, these beliefs have been presented as 28 statements of unchangeable dogma. This results in legalism and in losing sight of the main tenet of truth Jesus wanted us to follow: "They will know you are Christians by your love."
  • Regarding a creed. “The Bible, and the Bible alone, is to be our creed, the sole bond of union; all who bow to this Holy Word will be in harmony. Our own views and ideas must not control our efforts. Man is fallible, but God's Word is infallible. Instead of wrangling with one another, let men exalt the Lord. Let us meet all opposition as did our Master, saying, “It is written.” Let us lift up the banner on which is inscribed, The Bible our rule of faith and discipline.” — Ellen White, Review & Herald, Dec 15, 1885
  • The 7 Kings of Revelation 17. Published 1/17/2013. Duration 1:26:17. Revelation 17:9-10. The speaker concludes that Revelation 17 is in harmony with Daniel 2 and Revelation 13. The first four are Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome. The fifth king is Papal Rome. Thus, five are fallen--Papal Rome fell in 1798. The sixth king is the "wounded" stage of Papal Rome until 1929. The seventh king is then Papal Rome restored in 1929 which must remain only a little while. Note: The beast that you saw, "it was and is not and is to come" (verse 8), refers to the same power of Papal Rome. What about verse 11, "As for the beast that was and is not, it is an eighth but it belongs to the seven"? The answer: The seventh king--i.e. Papal Rome since 1929--is confined to its own jurisdiction; it does not have political power outside of Vatican City, other than secret influence over other nations. The eighth king will be when Papal Rome is again restored to political power as it once had. It is an eighth but it belongs to the seven. Revelation 17:12-13 is interpreted by EGW as being the U.S. and the world (i.e. 10 kings) handing power over to Papal Rome (the beast).

  • Reign of God: an introduction to Christian theology from a Seventh-day Adventist perspective / Richard Rice, Andrews University Press, 1997. "The role of the trinity in a doctrine of God always raises questions. One reason is that the word itself does not appear in the Bible, nor is there any clear statement of the idea. But the Bible does set the stage for its formulation, and the concept represents a development of blibical claims and concepts. So even though the doctrine of the trinity is not part of what the Bible itself says about God, it is part of what the church must say to safeguard the biblical view of God."
  • But Whom Say Ye That I Am (Part 1). Published 9/6/2019. Duration 1:20:44. Notes: "...the father-son image cannot be literally applied to the divine Father-Son relationship within the Godhead. The Son is not the natural, literal Son of the Father. A natural child has a beginning, while within the Godhead the Son is eternal. The term "Son" is used metaphorically when applied to the Godhead." --A Question of Sonship, Angel Manuel Rodriguez, Adventist Biblical Research.
  • "When Christ first announced to the heavenly host His mission and work in the world, He declared that He was to leave His position of dignity and disguise His holy mission by assuming the likeness of a man when in reality He was the Son of the infinite God." --Ellen G.   • That Christ should manifest Himself to them, and yet be invisible to the world, was a mystery to the disciples. They could not understand the words of Christ in their spiritual sense. They were thinking of the outward, visible manifestation. They could not take in the fact that they could have the presence of Christ with them, and yet He be unseen by the world. They did not understand the meaning of a spiritual manifestation. { SW September 13, 1898, par. 2 }
  • The Trinity According to Jesus - Nader Mansour. Published 8/29/2016. Duration 1:07:13. “In him was life; and the life was the light of men” ( John 1:4). It is not physical life that is here specified, but immortality, the life which is exclusively the property of God. The Word, who was with God, and who was God, had this life. Physical life is something which each individual receives. It is not eternal or immortal; for God, the Life-giver, takes it again. Man has no control over his life. But the life of Christ was unborrowed. No one can take this life from Him. “I lay it down of myself” ( John 10:18), He said. In Him was life, original, unborrowed, underived. This life is not inherent in man. He can possess it only through Christ. He cannot earn it; it is given him as a free gift if he will believe in Christ as His personal Saviour. “This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” ( John 17:3). This is the open fountain of life for the world. { 1SM 296.2}
  • But turning from all lesser representations, we behold God in Jesus. Looking unto Jesus we see that it is the glory of our God to give. “I do nothing of Myself,” said Christ; “the living Father hath sent Me, and I live by the Father.” “I seek not Mine own glory,” but the glory of Him that sent Me. John 8:28; 6:57; 8:50; 7:18. In these words is set forth the great principle which is the law of life for the universe. All things Christ received from God, but He took to give. So in the heavenly courts, in His ministry for all created beings: through the beloved Son, the Father’s life flows out to all; through the Son it returns, in praise and joyous service, a tide of love, to the great Source of all. And thus through Christ the circuit of beneficence is complete, representing the character of the great Giver, the law of life. { DA 21.2}
  • In the beginning the Father and the Son had rested upon the Sabbath after Their work of creation. When “the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them” ( Genesis 2:1), the Creator and all heavenly beings rejoiced in contemplation of the glorious scene. “The morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy.” Job 38:7. Now Jesus rested from the work of redemption; and though there was grief among those who loved Him on earth, yet there was joy in heaven. Glorious to the eyes of heavenly beings was the promise of the future. A restored creation, a redeemed race, that having conquered sin could never fall,—this, the result to flow from Christ’s completed work, God and angels saw. With this scene the day upon which Jesus rested is forever linked. For “His work is perfect;” and “whatsoever God doeth, it shall be forever.” Deuteronomy 32:4; Ecclesiastes 3:14. When there shall be a “restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began” ( Acts 3:21), the creation Sabbath, the day on which Jesus lay at rest in Joseph’s tomb, will still be a day of rest and rejoicing. Heaven and earth will unite in praise, as “from one Sabbath to another” ( Isaiah 66:23) the nations of the saved shall bow in joyful worship to God and the Lamb. { DA 769.2}

  • Good summation of non-Trinitarian view: That there is ONE God, THE FATHER. (John 17:3). We believe that Christ is JUST AS DIVINE as The Father and worthy to be WORSHIPPED, BECAUSE He is HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON. (John 5:23-26). We believe that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit OF God and the Spirit OF Christ, which is the SPIRITUAL MANIFESTATION of Christ in you and the Father in Christ. (John 14:16-23).
  • Good summation of Trinitarian confusion: Belief that 3 beings are 1 God without even ONE verse saying that, and that we should worship the Holy Spirit without even ONE verse saying that, that Christ’s Sonship is metaphorical without even ONE verse saying that, and that the Holy Spirit being the Spirit OF God and the Spirit OF Christ is metaphorical without even ONE verse saying that.

  • God's Will, Chance & Coincidence - Nader Mansour. Published 11/12/2013. Duration 1:01:34. If what God wants is what happens, then everything that happens is what God wants. In other words, the concept that God's will is supreme. What logically follows is that it makes God responsible for everything that happens on earth. Then, logically, God is responsible for sin. Is this true or not true? Is God responsible for sin? The doctrine of predestination (held by some) is closely linked with the idea that God's will is sovereign. If God's will is sovereign then why are we asked to pray, "Our Father, who art in heaven, Thy will be done"? Why are we asked to pray for God's will to be done, if it will be done regardless of human say or do?
  • First premise: That's God's will does not always happen on earth (as it happens in heaven). One factor is freedom of choice. We can choose to eat from the tree of life or not. We can choose life that comes from belief in Jesus or not. This comes with great responsibility. You, as a human being, can choose to reject God's will.

  • Are you Glorified? - Nader Mansour. Published 7/26/2019. Duration 43:47. Romans 8:30, "And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified." The Father was glorified in the Son. This is because of the Son's yielding his will to the Father and was ever seeking to glorify the Father. John 17:4-5, "I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed." Jesus was referring to the glory that he would receive at Pentecost. See notes below. Equation: Receiving the spirit => glorified.
  • Jesus was glorified as a man at his baptism. In this event the Father spoke, "This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased." What did Jesus receive at his baptism? The spirit.
  • Jesus was glorified at the Mount of Transfiguration. Luke 9:32, "they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him." In this event the Father spoke, "This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased."
  • Jesus was glorified at Pentecost (in heaven). This understanding is developed from John 12:28: Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.” The voice from heaven was the voice of the Father. The Father's name would be glorified in the glorification of the Son. The Son was glorified after the Ascension and the spirit was poured out from the Father to the Son and from the Son to the disciples at the day of Pentecost. John 7:38-39: Whoever believes in me, as[a] the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” 39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
  • The Father extends His glory to the Son. The Son shares his glory to us. John 17:22, "The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one." That is, we receive the glory of Jesus, as Jesus receives the glory of the Father. Notice, that this is past tense. Jesus was doing this *before* the Ascension, and much more after the Ascension. John 1:14, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth." So, the disciples saw the glory of Jesus while on earth. This is, therefore, the testimony of both John and Jesus.
  • We as Christians focus on the Cross, which is fine. But we often forget about the Resurrection (which occurred on the third day) and the Glorification (which occurred at Pentecost, 50 days later).
  • Measures of glory. (1) Lazarus raised from the dead. John 11:40: Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”. What did Martha see? The resurrection of Lazarus. Seeing the resurrection of Lazarus is closely related to seeing the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 3:18, "And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit."
  • In order for Jesus to give us glory, he first had to receive it. In the same way, we are to manifest glory. "...those whom he justified he also glorified." John 17:10, "And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them." 1 Peter 4:14, "If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you." Notice that this verse equates the spirit of God and the spirit of glory as the same thing.
  • The Resurrection. Romans 6:4, "We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life." What did Jesus receive when he was raised from the dead? Answer: (new) life. Just as Christ received new life, so to we can receive new life.
  • Glories to follow. 1 Peter 1:11, "inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories." 2 Thessalonians 2:14, "To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 8:18 (KJV), "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." Greek: "on us". in us] Lit., and better, unto us, upon us; q. d., “to be revealed as ours and laid as a crown, or robe, upon us.”—With this verse on his lips Calvin died, in extreme suffering, and unable to finish the quotation. Colossians 3:4, "When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory." We receive life now, when we are born again. In the future, the second coming, we will receive life eternal which is receiving his glory in a physical sense. Also, verse, "Christ in you, the hope of glory."

  • J. N. Andrews, March 6, 1855, Review & Herald, vol. 6, no. 24, page 185. The doctrine of the Trinity which was established in the church by the council of Nice, A.D. 325. This doctrine destroys the personality of God, and his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
  • Handbook for Today's Catholic, p. 11. The mystery of the trinity is the central doctrine of the Catholic faith. Upon it are based all the other teachings of the church.
  • Note: With any religion, the god or gods we worship is the central doctrine to that religion.
  • SS Quarterly of SDA, 1904, 2nd Quarter, page 11. "Where Satan's seat is." It was following the supposed conversion of Constantine that the flood-gates of error were opened, and every form of false doctrine was brought in. Constantine was nothing but a heathen to the day of his death. His so-called conversion was wholly an affair of political policy. Nearly every false doctrine in the Roman Chruch today, and every many still retained in Protestant churches, came direct from paganism, and were brought into, the church at that time. Truly it was where Satan's seat was.
  • Constantine introduced both the Trinity and Sunday worship.
  • The church of Pergamos prophetic period reached from Constantine, about 313, down to the rise of anti-christ, about 538 (cf. PP 188.13).
  • In 538 A.D., the Arian believers were completely wiped out by the Catholic Church, leaving the Papacy as the sole "Corrector of heretics." Anyone opposing the Catholic teaching of the Trinity was exterminated, for "the Mystery of the Trinity is the central doctrine of the Catholic Faith." (Reference is unclear. Not found in Handbook for Today's Catholic, p. 11, as some reference.May have been quoted from: An Attempt to Cover Up History or The Pagan Origins Of The Trinity Doctrine.)
  • Good motto: No belief should be held dogmatically which is not explicitly stated in Scripture.
  • “If we turn from the testimony of God’s word, and accept false doctrines because our fathers taught them, we fall under the condemnation pronounced upon Babylon; we are drinking of the wine of her abominations.” {E.W., 4SP 357.1} “Babylon is said to be “the mother of harlots.” By her daughters must be symbolized churches that cling to her doctrines and traditions, and follow her example of sacrificing the truth and the approval of God, in order to form an unlawful alliance with the world… therefore it cannot refer to the Roman Church alone, for that church has been in a fallen condition for many centuries…” {EGW, GC 382.3}
  • The Fourth Angel's Message is a Repeat of the Second. The prophet says, “I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils” ( Revelation 18:1, 2). This is the same message that was given by the second angel. Babylon is fallen, “because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication” ( Revelation 14:8). What is that wine?—Her false doctrines. She has given to the world a false sabbath instead of the Sabbath of the fourth commandment, and has repeated the falsehood that Satan first told Eve in Eden—the natural immortality of the soul. Many kindred errors she has spread far and wide, “teaching for doctrines the commandments of men” ( Matthew 15:9). { 2SM 118.1}
  • “There have ever been two classes among those who profess to be followers of Christ. While one class study the Saviour’s life and earnestly seek to correct their defects and conform to the Pattern, the other class shun the plain, practical truths which expose their errors.” {Ellen White, GC 43.2}

Notes on "The Two Lords"

  • The Two Lords by Sumner. "God has made him both Lord and Messiah—this Yeshua." (Acts 2:36) "No one can say, 'Yeshua is Lord,' except by the Holy Spirit." (1 Corinthians 12:3) "We preach Messiah Yeshua as Lord." (2 Corinthians 4:5).
  • "The LORD said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand Until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." (Psalm 110:1) This passage is found four times in the New Testament: Matthew 22:44 (for context, see vss 41-46), Mark 12:36, Luke 20:42, and Acts 2:34.
  • The second "Lord" (printed with one capital letter) is Adon. Adon means master, sovereign, lord, even husband. It is most often used for human males (Sarah calls husband Abraham her "lord"; Gen 18:12. David calls Saul his "lord"; 1 Sam 24:6. Ruth calls Boaz "my lord"; Ruth 2:14). Several times Adon is used for God (Exod 23:17; Isa 1:24; Ps 8:2). He is "Lord of lords" (Deut 10:17; Ps 136:3) and "Lord of all the earth" (Jos 3:11, 13; Mic 4:13; Zech 4:14; 6:5; Ps 97:5).
  • Adon David. David is the central human character in the Hebrew Bible. More attention is given to him than to Moses. And, according to the prophets, Israel's national destiny lies with another, future David (Hosea 3:5; Ezek 37:24-25; Isa 55:3), not a second Moses. King David and his descendants who ruled from Jerusalem were thought to share God's throne as His representatives on earth. They and David were princes, symbolically sitting next to the "Great King" (Ps 48:2). We hear David express this idea himself. Just before dying, he tells his people that God "has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of YHVH over Israel" (1 Chron 28:5). At the coronation ceremony, the narrator then notes, "Solomon sat on the throne of YHVH as king" (1 Chron 29:23).
  • In Psalm 110:3 in the Septuagint [LXX 109:3], God says to his right-hand Lord: "Among the splendors of the holy ones, Before the dawn I have begotten you." A few Hebrew manuscripts also have "I have begotten you." The medieval Masoretic text has something like "yours was the dew of youth." Some historians believe the LXX follows the original Hebrew version, which was later changed by the Masoretes to suppress a proof-text used by Yeshua's disciples. Inaugurating a king into office is like a father begetting a son. This lord's inauguration takes place in the heavens, "before the dawn" (of creation, of history, of the final age?).
  • This phrase echoes Psalm 2:7b: He said to me, "You are my son, Today I have begotten you." [Quoted in Acts 13:33; Heb 1:5; 5:5] The emergence of human kings in Israel creates a dual monarchy in Hebrew Scripture. There are now two "Lords" in ancient Israel: God himself and his co-ruling David on earth. As a result, for Yeshua to appropriate to himself the title of Adon from Psalm 110:1 was a known messianic interpretation.
  • By calling Yeshua "Lord," the apostles were saying he was God's Adon — not YHVH, God the Father. Notice Paul's word order in this passage: As you have therefore received Messiah Yeshua [Christ Jesus] the Lord, so walk in him. (Col 2:6)
  • His Adon-ship dominates the NT. "Today in the city of David there has been born for you a savior, who is Messiah the Lord." (Luke 2:11) "The word which he sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace through Yeshua Messiah (he is Lord of all)" (Acts 10:36) "No one can say, "Yeshua is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit." (1 Cor 12:3)
  • "Lord Messiah and Lord God." (1) The title "Lord" (Greek, kurios) is typically used to distinguish Yeshua from "God." This is clear from the salutations and benedictions in NT letters . "Grace to you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Yeshua Messiah" (Rom 1:7). See a complete list: Rom 1:7; 1 Cor 16:23; Jacob 1:1; 2 Peter 1:2. The Father is "the God...of our Lord Yeshua" (Rom 15:6; 2 Cor 1:3; Eph 1:17). The typical banner of NT faith is: "There is one God, the Father...and one Lord, Yeshua Messiah" (1 Cor 8:6).
  • (2) In some places in the NT, "Lord" [kurios] stands for the Tetragrammaton.
  • (3) At times, Hebrew Bible texts that refer to YHVH are applied to the Lord, Yeshua.
  • Here's the paradox. Though the Messiah is not YHVH, he in some way manifests God's presence on earth. (Paul calls Yeshua "the image of the invisible God"; 2 Cor 4:4; Col 1:15.) An inseparable bond exists between the two Lords. Angels praise both God and Yeshua (Rev 5:13). They share one throne (Rev 22:1).
  • Summary: (1) Psalm 110:1 sheds light on the Type and Anti-type of God's representative Adon on earth. David was the Type Adon and Christ is the Anti-type. (2) The NT disciples focused on describing Jesus as YHVH's Adon—his position, role, or status with God.

The Third Commandment ("You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain...")

  • The Purpose and Meaning of the Third Commandment. "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain..." References Ezekiel 36:16-27, Colossians 3:17, 1 Thessalonians 4:3, Romans 2:21-24, etc. God's Name represents His character, His purposes, His holiness, His power, His will.
  • Are you sure You really know the Third Commandment? A literal translation might read, "Do not carry the name of the LORD your God in vain; for God will not hold him to be clean that carries His name in vain." Also notice that it's a chiasm. "In like manner to the Levites lifting up and carrying the Ark of God in proper manner, as God commanded, so we are to lift up and carry God’s name honourably by the example of our lives , as part of God’s Family."
