2 John 1:9

2 John 1:9: Any one who goes ahead and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God; he who abides in the doctrine has both the Father and the Son.

"who goes ahead." To go further than is right or proper, to transgress the limits of the "doctrine of Christ." That is, wrong doctrine would be to teach something beyond the truth or teaching of Christ.

"doctrine of Christ." The one "who goes ahead" and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ is not reconciled to God. This is in harmony with Jesus' declaration that those that do not honor the Son also do not honor the Father. Yet those who *do* abide in the doctrine of Christ have both the Father and the Son! Where is the Holy Spirit? If God is three in one as the Trinity teaches, why is the emphasis on the relationship with man confined to the Father and the Son only? The answer is simple. God is not three divine beings. God is one person, the Father, and Christ is His Son. The Holy Spirit is not mentioned, because the Holy Spirit is not a person.
