Statistics
- Statistics vary somewhat from reference to reference, so the following numbers may not be accurate.
- Strong's Concordance gives 5,523 unique words in the GNT, with 319 accounting for 80%. Strong's is using the Textus Receptus Greek version, not the Critical Text. Presumably, the Critical Text has 5,400 unique words.
- hapax legomenon; "being said once". 2,000 of of the unique words in the GNT appear only once. Koine Greek (GNT) was a "trade" language, so it was the simplest Greek there is. The vocabulary of classical Greek had 147,000 words. Thus, the GNT vocabulary consisted of about 1.1% of the Greek language.
- 50% consists of 27 words.
- 75% consists of 200 words.
- 80% repeating 50 times or more consists of 311 words (Critical Text) or 319 words (TR).
- Textus Receptus has 140,521 total words versus the Critical Text having 138,015 total words, or 2,506 fewer words.
